Why it matters

The producer

The estate began when Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino founded Azelia in Castiglione Falletto. Luigi Scavino now works alongside his wife Lorella and son Lorenzo, bringing more than 40 harvests of experience.

Integrated pest and disease management, reduced treatments, cover crops and mowing shape the vineyard program. The soil is not tilled. Green harvesting further lowers yields and selects fruit for uniform ripening, while old vines remain an explicit priority. In the cellar, the approach is traditional and detail-oriented.

Wines to know

The range in view

Barolo Bricco Fiasco is entirely Nebbiolo from a separately vinified 1.5-hectare vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. The vines average 85 years old. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts lasts approximately 30 to 35 days under a submerged cap at 31°C, followed by 24 months in wood. The wine is floral and highly perfumed, with red fruit, richness, warmth and intense freshness. The 2019 developed cherry fruit after aeration, with lifted acidity and slightly drying tannins.

Barolo Riserva Bricco Voghera is also entirely Nebbiolo. Its 0.85-hectare vineyard has vines averaging 95 years old. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts runs approximately 35 to 40 days under a submerged cap at 31°C. The wine then ages for five years in large casks and five more in bottle. Its aromas and flavours include dried flowers, dried fruits, black cherry, prune, blackberry, rose, violet and dark chocolate, joined by freshness, aromatic intensity and generous, round tannins.
