Why it matters

The producer

Bodegas Juan Gil sits on the slopes of Peñarrubia mountain in Jumilla, where the Gil family has made wine since the early 20th century. Its more than 750 hectares of vineyards are mainly unirrigated, low-yielding bush vines, including indigenous clones from its own nursery. Monastrell accounts for 85% of the vineyard, and a large part is farmed organically.
