Why it matters

The producer

Bouchard Père & Fils' wine cellars are in Château de Beaune, a historic royal fortress. The house's named holdings include Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus in Beaune Grèves, Volnay Caillerets, Chevalier-Montrachet and Corton. Chevalier-Montrachet is among the firm's Grand Cru holdings. Volnay Caillerets is named as the founding parcel.

In 1995, nine generations of Bouchard family ownership ended when the firm passed to Joseph Henriot. Bouchard Père & Fils is certified organic as of 2025.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Beaune sits in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. Burgundy labels can name a regional wine, a village, or a Premier Cru or Grand Cru site. Premier Cru and Grand Cru are classifications for ranked vineyard sites. The designation therefore names a more specific piece of land than a broad regional wine. Bouchard's range includes red and white Premier Cru wines, and its vineyard portfolio includes Grand Cru holdings.

Wines to know

The range in view

The bottles include Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières, a red Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune; Beaune du Château in red and white; and Beaune Clos Saint-Landry as a white Premier Cru. Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 2020 shows bright red fruit aromatics and a supple, silky texture that fills the mouth. Named holdings in Chevalier-Montrachet and Corton extend the portfolio into Grand Cru vineyards.
