Why it matters

The producer

Château La Cabanne farms 8.84 hectares of vines in Pomerol. Its ground is clay and gravel with blue clay subsoil. Clay can retain water while gravel improves drainage, giving the vines contrasting sources of moisture and drainage during the growing season.

The cellar ages the wine in French oak barrels for approximately 15 months, with 60% new barrels. Oak allows slow oxygen exchange and can add spice and toast while tannin softens during time in wood.

Where the wines begin

Pomerol is the appellation named on Château La Cabanne's wines, and it designates red Bordeaux. Château La Cabanne Pomerol 2014 uses the appellation in its name, while Château La Cabanne 2021 and Château La Cabanne 2023 use the château name.

Wines to know

The range in view

The named range includes Château La Cabanne 2023, Château La Cabanne 2021 and Château La Cabanne Pomerol 2014. All three are red Pomerol wines. A second wine is also produced alongside the principal château bottling.

The principal wine is composed of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Merlot typically provides fuller fruit and body, while Cabernet Franc can contribute aroma and firmer tannin.

Note. Vineyard composition varies by vintage, and the second wine's name and blend are unspecified; this page uses 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc as its canonical figures.
