Why it matters

The producer

Johan Vidal took over Château La Reyne in 1997 after his father and maternal grandfather, becoming the fifth generation to produce wine at the estate. The vineyard spans 44 hectares under organic management.

Natural grassing and manual labor are used in the vineyard. The estate combines this traditional work with modern temperature controlled fermentation. Malbec, Cahors's emblematic grape, forms the center of the red wine range.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Château La Reyne is located in Leygues, Puy-l'Évêque, in the Lot Valley and the Cahors region of southwest France. Cahors is the appellation attached to the estate's reds, while Malbec is the region's emblematic grape.

The estate belongs to Club Génération Lieux-dits, an association producing Cahors wines that show the nuances of terroir and Malbec.

Wines to know

The range in view

The estate's named red wines include Le Prestige and Le Tradition. Le Prestige is deeply colored, with black fruit, violet and delicate spice, refined tannins and a long aromatic finish. Le Tradition has floral and fruity aromas lifted by spice, a round and supple palate, fine tannins, vibrant fruit and refreshing balance.

Le Malbec de Cahors adds a medium weight style to the range. Its 2020 vintage has a rounded texture, violet infused dark fruit, crushed plum and a fresh, long finish.
