Under Bernard Duseigneur, the estate is also considering a different route, with more wines built around a single variety. The producer's current bottles make that transition tangible. Privilège 2020 is a supple, silky red with ripe berries, wild herbs, cracked pepper and toasty oak spice. Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge 2023 works at a more medium-bodied scale, with dark fruit, pepper, herbs, velvety tannins and balanced acidity. The white takes a separate path through Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Roussanne.

Where the wines begin
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the estate's central appellation, a southern Rhône name that permits 13 grape varieties rather than a single dominant grape. Maucoil's all-variety planting allows traditional red blends and gives future single-variety bottlings a wide starting point. Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge sits lower in the range, with a smooth GSM-style profile built around red and dark fruit, pepper and herbs. The label therefore changes with both appellation and bottle style: broad Châteauneuf blending at the top, a more direct Rhône red in the regional wine.
Maucoil's documented site detail does not establish a named soil type or parcel, so the useful site marker is the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation itself. The grape choice and cellar handling carry more weight in the available wines than a geological description. All 13 permitted varieties remain in cultivation, while hand harvesting and sorting by variety and parcel keep the fruit separated before vinification.

Biodynamic conversion began immediately after Duseigneur took ownership. His vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac and Côtes-du-Rhône had already been biodynamic for many years, so Maucoil entered the change alongside an established farming practice. The conversion is still described as a beginning, not a completed certification.
Grapes are harvested by hand and pass through three stages of manual sorting before vinification. The fruit is sorted by variety and parcel, then at least one red cuvée is fermented in concrete tanks. Those choices separate the incoming fruit before it reaches the cellar and keep the wine's grape and parcel components distinct through the first stage of production.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Privilège 2020 is the fuller red register. Its profile centres on ripe red and dark berries, wild herbs, cracked pepper and integrated toasty oak spice, with a supple, silky palate. It is approachable now and has a stated drinking window through 2034, so the bottle combines immediate softness with the capacity to develop in bottle.
Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge 2023 is a medium-bodied red with ripe red berries, black cherries and subtle spice. Dark berries, black pepper and herbal undertones lead into velvety tannins, balanced acidity and a long, refined finish. Its smooth GSM-style character makes it the most direct expression of the range's red-fruit and pepper register.
