The producer
The château on the property was built in 1853, on an estate created in 1457. The Barton family purchased Château Mauvesin Barton in 2011 from the Baritault de Carpia family. Lilian Barton Sartorius and her husband Michel Sartorius then began restoration and renovation across the property.
Château Mauvesin Barton is located in Moulis-en-Médoc within the Haut-Médoc appellation. Its red wine uses Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel and ageing in French oak. Mélanie Barton Sartorius joined the company in 2013 as the first Barton family member with formal oenology credentials. Her brother Damien Barton Sartorius represents the eighth generation of the Barton family in the Médoc.

Where the wines begin
The estate is in Moulis-en-Médoc within the Haut-Médoc, on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Moulis-en-Médoc gives the local address, while Haut-Médoc names the wider appellation used for the red wine.
The soils combine gravel with clay, sand and limestone. These are the ground conditions recorded for the vineyard, without a narrower claim about drainage, microclimate or bottle ageing.

Château Mauvesin Barton 2021 is a red Haut-Médoc. The house blend profile is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. It spends 12 months in French oak, with 33% of the barrels new.
