Why it matters
The producer
Château Montana spans two terroirs, with named cuvées including Red Star, Silence and White Star. The winery was fully refurbished around 2004 to 2005, about one hundred years after its founding.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
Château Montana's vineyard footprint is divided between 25 hectares at the château and 5 hectares on the Aspres, approximately 30 hectares in all. These are the two vineyard areas named for the estate.
Wines to know
The range in view
Red Star displays power and aromatic richness, with woodiness suggesting great tradition. Silence is the red cuvée, showing subtle dense fruit with vanilla or spice notes from ageing. White Star has floral and fruity evocations, with subtle complexities from ripening in a demi muid. The cuvées are presented without a grape variety or blend assigned to any individual name.
