Why it matters

The producer

Thierry Buzzo learned winemaking from his grandparents and his father, Vincent Buzzo. He later created Domaine Buzzo Bunifazziu on ancestral family land in Bonifacio. The range includes red, white and rosé wines made from Corsican grape varieties.

Ciafara Rouge is the Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu red from limestone soils in Bonifacio. Ciafara Rosé, Rocca Gianca, Cian di Fossi and Biginti Blanc complete the named range, with Minustellu and Barbarossa appearing among the grapes.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Bonifacio is the Corsican home of Domaine Buzzo Bunifazziu. Ciafara Rouge is documented as coming from limestone soils in Bonifacio, and the range includes Corsican grape varieties.

The place is expressed differently across the bottles. Ciafara Rouge carries the limestone origin, while Ciafara Rosé, Rocca Gianca, Cian di Fossi and Biginti Blanc are distinguished through their grape names and documented wine styles.

In the cellar

Vineyards and cellar

Harvest and ageing details are documented for Ciafara Rouge. The grapes are hand harvested, then the wine is vinified and aged in oak barrels. Hand harvesting allows bunches to be selected individually; barrel ageing exposes the wine to gradual oxygen and can add spice while softening tannin.

Wines to know

The range in view

The range covers red, white and rosé wines. Ciafara Rouge is the Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu red, with hand harvesting and oak barrel ageing. Cian di Fossi is the Minustellu red.

Ciafara Rosé is the rosé. Rocca Gianca is the mineral white, while Biginti Blanc is the Barbarossa white. The bottles move from red grape blends to rosé freshness and floral white wines.
