Why it matters

The producer

François Confuron established the operation in 1989. The Confuron name has worked with vines and wine for six generations. Domaine Confuron-Gindre operates approximately 11 hectares across three Côte de Nuits villages. Vineyard work uses preventive methods, including ploughing and trimming, to reduce disease risk through natural techniques. Bottling takes place at the domaine, with temperatures respected and the lunar calendar followed when possible.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

The domaine's Côte de Nuits holdings run through Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. Vosne-Romanée is the village named on the estate's red bottle, while premier cru identifies a classified vineyard within a village appellation. That distinction narrows the place named on the bottle from the village to a named climate. The village wine draws on ten Vosne-Romanée parcels, keeping the village name while combining multiple vineyard sites.

Wines to know

The range in view

Vosne-Romanée Domaine Confuron-Gindre is the named red village wine in the range. The 2022 vintage is an assemblage of ten distinct vineyard parcels totaling 2.37 hectares, with vines from 30 to 70 years old. It spends approximately 18 months in barrels, with 30 percent new oak. The domaine's Vosne-Romanée has energetic aromas of red and black fruit with rose petal. Raspberry and strawberry follow on the palate, supported by adequate acidity and fine tannins.

The vineyard holdings also include Les Chaumes and Les Beaumonts, premier cru parcels in Vosne-Romanée, at 37 ares and 27 ares. The range therefore includes a village wine alongside named premier cru holdings.
