Why it matters

The producer

From 15 hectares at the beginning, Domaine de la Janasse has grown to more than 90 hectares through strategic land acquisitions. The domaine is based in Courthézon and works across Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.

Grapes are harvested exclusively by hand across all vineyards. This keeps the harvest dependent on bunch selection and vineyard timing, from the domaine's broad holdings to its oldest vines.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Courthézon is the home of Domaine de la Janasse. Its bottles span Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône, with Terre d'Argile labeled Côtes du Rhône Villages.

Terre d'Argile comes from vines rooted in red clay and rounded pebbles. The cuvée is dense and fleshy, with aromatic power followed by a distinct delicacy that lingers.

Wines to know

The range in view

The range includes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Domaine de la Janasse, Domaine de la Janasse Vieilles Vignes, and Domaine de la Janasse Terre d'Argile. Tradition is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, while Vieilles Vignes Rouge is produced from vines planted since 1920 across four distinct terroirs.

Vieilles Vignes Rouge brings deep aromas of crushed black fruits and garrigue. Terre d'Argile carries the Côtes du Rhône Villages name, while the other named bottles carry Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation wording.
