Why it matters
The producer
Domaine d’Eugénie makes red Burgundy from holdings in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Organic and biodynamic viticulture has guided the estate from its outset. Vinification is sulfur free, with limited sulfur additions at bottling to keep the wines stable.
The domaine’s philosophy centres on bottles that express Burgundy character wherever they are encountered. Its range includes Vosne Romanée wines alongside Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
The holdings extend across eight communal villages: Vosne Romanée, Vougeot, Flagey Échezeaux, Nuits Saint Georges, Chambolle Musigny, Gevrey Chambertin, Chassagne Montrachet and Meursault. The Côte de Nuits villages appear across the red wines, while Chassagne Montrachet and Meursault place part of the estate in the Côte de Beaune.
Premier Cru and Grand Cru are Burgundy vineyard classifications. Grand Cru is the higher category, and both terms place a more specific vineyard status on the label than a regional appellation.

The range in view
The range includes Vosne Romanée Clos d’Eugénie, Vosne Romanée Premier Cru Aux Brûlées, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru and Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru. All are red wines, moving from Vosne Romanée and Premier Cru addresses to Grand Cru vineyards.
The 2022 Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru uses 80% whole bunch vinification with five new barrels out of seven. Whole bunch vinification keeps stems with the grapes during fermentation, which can bring perfume and tannin. New barrels add oak and oxygen exchange during ageing. The recommended drinking window is 2032 to 2045.
