Why it matters

The producer

The cellar at Domaine du Pesquier contains no new barrels. It uses old wooden foudres, large casks that allow ageing without new oak, and cement tanks. The wines ferment with indigenous yeasts during long, gentle vinification.

Domaine du Pesquier is family owned and sits in the heart of Gigondas in the Rhône Valley. Guy and Mathieu Boutière cultivate the vines, continuing four generations of Boutière stewardship.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

The estate's Gigondas parcels occupy several distinct vineyard settings. One holding covers 10 hectares of terraces at 170 metres. The historic Pesquier terroir parcel contains 4 hectares of chalky marl soils, while another 3 hectares lie on terraces at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail at 350 metres.

Across the parcels, the soils include stone, red clay and chalky marl. The vineyards therefore range from lower terraces to higher ground beneath the Dentelles, with each site carrying its own soil profile.

Wines to know

The range in view

The estate's vineyard holdings cover 17 hectares in Gigondas, 1 hectare in Vacqueyras, 2 hectares in Côtes du Rhône and 4 hectares in Vin de Pays de Vaucluse.

Domaine du Pesquier Gigondas 2022 is a red wine from the Gigondas appellation. It blends Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with a full body and a traditionally structured style.
