Why it matters

The producer

Four generations of family ownership continue at Domaine du Petit Clocher in Anjou. The domaine farms 90 hectares and makes wines across several Loire categories, with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon in the range.

The red wines are the estate's signature wines, made from Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon grown on magmatic rocks or green schist. The family obtained High Environmental Value certification, known as HVE, in 2018. The range brings together fresh white wines, Cabernet reds, rosé and sweet wine under one family name.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Loire's cool climate gives the whites their lighter profile. Chardonnay from Anjou is unoaked, with peach and floral notes and a light, fresh palate. Sauvignon Blanc is bright and refreshing, while Anjou Blanc carries Chenin Blanc in a light, clean, complex and food friendly style.

The red wines use Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon grown on magmatic rocks or green schist. The Anjou setting therefore connects grape choice with both cool climate freshness in the whites and rocky growing ground in the reds.

Wines to know

The range in view

The range is organized by style. Anjou Blanc is the Chenin Blanc white, joined by an unoaked Chardonnay from Anjou and a bright Sauvignon Blanc. Anjou Rouge is the red blend, made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 bottle has 12.5% alcohol by volume.

Rosé de Loire AOC is a crisp, fruity rosé on the bolder side. Coteaux du Layon sits at the sweet end, with floral and honeyed aromas followed by ripe exotic fruit on the palate.
