Why it matters
The producer
David González brings more than 25 years in the wine sector to Dominio de Elbio, where he is technical director. He has worked at recognised wineries and taught at the University of La Rioja. His family comes from Arlanza, about 20 kilometres from the vineyard.
Dominio de Elbio is part of Grupo Perelada Chivite, a family owned group. The project has an estate and a red wine carrying the same name, with Salvio as its other named bottling.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
La Horra, Anguix and Roa form the estate's geographic frame within Ribera del Duero. The surrounding area is associated with more than 2,300 years of winemaking tradition, from the Celtiberians to the present.
The three place names connect the property to the Ribera del Duero appellation, which appears on both red wines in the range.
Wines to know
The range in view
The range is built around two red Ribera del Duero wines, Dominio de Elbio 2023 and Dominio de Elbio Salvio 2024. Dominio de Elbio carries the estate name, while Salvio is a separate named wine with its own élevage.
Salvio is aged in French oak barrels that have already been used once, with the duration varying by vintage. Its nose shows violet, cherry and raspberry. On the palate it is vibrant and markedly acidic, with subtle barrel notes balancing the juicy fruit.
