Why it matters
The producer
Gaja was founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859 and began single-vineyard production with Sorì San Lorenzo in 1967. Its Gaja Barbaresco draws on Nebbiolo from 14 estate vineyards, while Gaia & Rey is 100% Chardonnay from two Langhe vineyards in Treiso and Serralunga d’Alba.
