Why it matters
The producer
Koblevo makes wine in Ukraine, with annual production of about 20 million bottles. The winery works with European vine seedlings from France, Italy and Germany, planting 3,333 seedlings per hectare. Weed control uses Czech mechanical hoes, with the producer stating that chemicals are not used for this work.
Harvested grapes reach the plant within one to two hours. Processing lines have a stated capacity of 160 tonnes per hour. The winery checks sugar and acidity, monitors physical, chemical and microbiological parameters, and uses selected yeast cultures for individual varieties. Cold sterile bottling has been used since 2013.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
The vineyards lie between the warm Black Sea and the protected Tiligul estuary. Koblevo places its own vineyards on the 46th parallel, in a landscape defined by coastal water and sheltered estuary rather than a named appellation.
