Why it matters
The producer
MDCV is not one château or one vineyard but a group of estates. Château de Berne and Ultimate Provence are both Côtes de Provence holdings, while the wider business also owns Harlot and Silverhand Estate in England. That structure matters at the shelf: an MDCV wine can arrive under an estate label, with the site and bottle name doing more work than the group name alone.
Château de Berne supplies the most detailed view of the group’s Provençal work. Its organic vineyards join a 515-hectare preserved property in Provence’s hinterland, where rosé has a firm physical basis in limestone, sand and a warm southern setting.

Where the wines begin
MDCV’s headquarters are on Route de la Garde-Freinet in Le Cannet-des-Maures, a commune behind the Mediterranean coast rather than beside it. Château de Berne sits in this Provençal hinterland, while Château des Bertrands lies nearby in the Plaine des Maures nature reserve, on the western edge of the Estérel massif. These are estate wines from separate sites, so a Château de Berne label and a Château des Bertrands label should not be treated as interchangeable rosés.
Ultimate Provence adds another Côtes de Provence address: 46 organically certified hectares beside evergreen oaks. Its vineyard is rooted in sandstone, making its place story distinct from Berne’s limestone plateau.

Organic farming is a documented part of the estate work: Château de Berne has held certification since 2021, Ultimate Provence is organically certified, and Château des Bertrands has begun conversion. The farming detail is useful because the wines come from named vineyard sites rather than a pooled regional blend.
For the documented 2022 Berne Inspiration release, grapes were harvested at night and fermented in steel tanks for three weeks at 12–16°C before transfer to clean tanks. Cool steel fermentation protects fresh fruit and citrus notes, while the separate barrel-aged Château de Berne rosé project brings oak and longer ageing into a different bottle style.

The range in view
The MDCV portfolio is built chiefly around Côtes de Provence rosé, with white and red wines also produced across its estates. Château de Berne offers several rosé cuvées, including Inspiration; Ultimate Provence is a separate organic Côtes de Provence estate; Château des Bertrands produces mainly rosé alongside red and white wines.
Berne Inspiration is the most fully documented wine. The reviewed 2023 is 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and 20% Syrah: a dry, medium-bodied rosé with strawberry, watermelon and pink-grapefruit fruit, supported by lively acidity. The 2022 vintage was also described with strawberry, redcurrant and white-fleshed fruit, plus a round mouthfeel, stony and saline notes, and a dry finish.

A bottle to begin with
Start with Château de Berne Inspiration Rosé 2023. It is a Côtes de Provence blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and 20% Syrah, made at the estate whose limestone plateau and sandy soils offer MDCV’s clearest site contrast. Expect pale-pink colour, strawberry and watermelon fruit, pink grapefruit, herbs, medium body and lively acidity, ending dry rather than sugary.
