Why it matters

The producer

Marchesi Frescobaldi owns Ornellaia today, and Ferdinando Frescobaldi is president of the estate owned by the Frescobaldi Group. Lodovico Antinori founded Tenuta dell’Ornellaia in 1981, when the estate was described as 225 acres.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Via Bolgherese is home to the cellar and historic vineyard block, while an important part of the vineyards extends into Bellaria north of Bolgheri. Soil, sun, sea, wind and the history of this land combine to define every wine.

Wines to know

The range in view

Ornellaia is the estate’s flagship, labelled Bolgheri Superiore. Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is the second wine, labelled Bolgheri Rosso. A second wine is a separate bottle from the flagship; here, Le Serre Nuove is intended to anticipate Ornellaia’s vintage personality. Together the two wines provide distinct points of view within the estate’s range.

Ornellaia 2021 has aromas of Mediterranean shrub, herbs, cypress berries, blackberry and dark fruit. Dense tannins give the palate a firm, drying grip, and a vibrant, enduring finish leaves aromatic freshness after the sip.
