The producer
Gary Andrus founded Pine Ridge in 1978 with Cabernet Sauvignon planted on rugged Stags Leap District ground. The original choice matters because Cabernet is both the historical grape and the clearest documented bottle style today: Pine Ridge’s 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has independent tasting coverage for fruit, mineral and savoury character, with firm structure carrying the wine through the finish.
Pine Ridge now works estate vineyards in five AVAs, from the hills of Howell Mountain to Carneros. Those names are not interchangeable labels: each identifies where grapes are grown, so the winery’s range can be organised by vineyard address as well as by its Napa Valley Cabernet base.

Where the wines begin
Stags Leap District is the producer’s founding ground and the location that links Pine Ridge most directly to Cabernet Sauvignon. Andrus planted there before the district had its present name, so the label’s association with Stags Leap is rooted in a planting decision rather than a later marketing addition.
The wider estate footprint extends through Howell Mountain, Oakville and Rutherford in Napa Valley, with Carneros also in the picture. Working across these AVAs gives the winery separate growing areas to observe and manage; the resulting wines can be assembled or bottled with a clearer sense of where their fruit began.

Pine Ridge reports that every vineyard and block is walked weekly. With approximately 160 acres spread across five AVAs, that routine turns site observation into a repeated farming task: the people responsible for the vines can follow each block through the season rather than treating Napa Valley fruit as one uniform crop.
Gustavo Aviña has worked with Pine Ridge’s sites since 2003, and Josh Widaman became head winemaker in 2021. The official winemaking material records harvest timing, fermentation, barrel ageing in caves and bottling as part of the process; together, those steps carry vineyard fruit from picking into a structured Cabernet with oak and savoury detail rather than simply ripe fruit alone.

The range in view
The documented range is best understood through place. Pine Ridge has estate vineyards in Stags Leap District, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford and Carneros, and Cabernet Sauvignon is the grape with the strongest evidence behind it. The wine list therefore begins with a Napa Cabernet address, then opens onto vineyard areas whose names indicate where the fruit was grown.
