Why it matters

The producer

Solar da Pena combines wine production with rural accommodation among vineyards outside Braga. Businessman José Correia is the present steward behind the revival of the wine brand, while the manor house and chapel are being restored.

The estate's 30 hectares are divided among Solar da Pena, Quinta da Ombra, Quinta das Areias and Quinta de Moure, the oldest of the four vineyards. All grapes processed in the cellar come from the estate's own production.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

The vineyards lie within the Cávado subregion of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region. Their soils are predominantly granite. The sloping sites receive enough sun for full ripening.

Wines to know

The range in view

The named FolcLore range contains two 2024 bottlings: Solar Da Pena FolcLore 2024 is the white wine, while Solar Da Pena FolcLore Rosé 2024 provides its rosé counterpart. The shared range name and vintage organize the pair by wine color.

Indigenous regional varieties cover 87% of the vineyard area, led by Loureiro and Arinto. The wider plantings also include Avesso, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Espadeiro, Padeiro and Vinhão. Solar da Pena practices sustainable viticulture under Integrated Production Method certification and uses cellar controls to reduce water consumption.
