Why it matters
The producer
Stringhetta Società Agricola sits on Via Argine Destro Piave, the right-bank dyke road that runs along the Piave river on the eastern Veneto plain. The address is not incidental. The Piave supplies the farm's geographic setting, lending its name to the saffron and asparagus grown alongside the vines and marking the kind of place where a family enterprise can draw its whole range from a single river corridor.
Mattia Stringhetta leads the business into its second generation. Where the first generation built the wine operation, Mattia pushed the farm outward through research and study, adding Piave saffron and Piave asparagus as named products alongside the wine selections. The asparagus of the Piave is the most prominent of the seasonal specialties in the family's own account. The range includes wine selections, Piave saffron, and Piave asparagus.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
The Piave plain stretches across the northeastern corner of Veneto, from the foothills of the Dolomites down toward the Adriatic coast. The river gave its name to a legally defined wine zone, and the flat, alluvial terrain of the plain produces wines that tend toward freshness, light body, and aromatic clarity rather than weight. Sparkling wine from Glera is the style most at home in this corridor, and Stringhetta's range follows that grain: the sparkling bottles lead, with still varietal wines completing the picture.
The postal code 30027 and the Metropolitan City of Venice municipality place the farm in the southern part of the Veneto wine country, downstream from the hills where the DOCG designations for Prosecco concentrate. Wines are labelled under the Veneto regional designation; specific appellation status beyond that is unconfirmed.
In the cellar
Vineyards and cellar
The grapes grown or sourced include Glera, Pinot Nero, and Chardonnay. Glera is the white variety behind both the Prosecco Brut and, blended with Pinot Nero, the sparkling rosato. Pinot Nero also appears as a still varietal wine, and Chardonnay produces a still white.
The sparkling wines are made in the frizzante or spumante styles typical of Veneto producers working with Glera: light, aromatic, built for freshness. The Prosecco Brut carries a brut designation, meaning it is made with low dosage and finishes drier than the Extra Dry label on the rosato.
Wines to know
The range in view
The range runs to four confirmed bottles across sparkling and still styles.
The Prosecco Brut 2022 is 100 percent Glera, the grape legally required for Prosecco production. It opens with pear, gooseberry, grapefruit and elderflower on the nose, stays just under medium body in the glass, and carries lively acidity and an active mousse to a faintly fruit-sweet finish. The brut designation keeps it from tipping into sweetness, though the fruit character is present and forward.
A useful way in
A bottle to begin with
Start with the Prosecco Brut 2022. It is 100 percent Glera, made in the brut style, and it gives the most direct reading of what the farm and the Piave plain produce. Pear and elderflower on the nose, a lively mousse, bright acidity, and a clean finish with just enough fruit to stay interesting without tipping sweet. It is a light, aromatic sparkling wine built for drinking young, and it represents the style at the centre of the Stringhetta range and the broader Veneto sparkling tradition from which the farm works.
