The producer
Vignobles Gabriel & CO brings together independent winegrowers across Bordeaux’s Right Bank rather than presenting one château, village or vineyard as its whole story. That structure matters in the bottle: the range can include a Merlot-led red blend from Château Les Reuilles, a 100% Merlot Lussac-Saint-Émilion from Château Puy Galland, and a dry sparkling wine made from Ugni Blanc and Colombard. The common thread is Bordeaux, but each label keeps its own grapes, method and shape in the glass.
Gabriel Bruneteau founded the family wine business in 1904. More than a century later, Vignobles Gabriel & CO operates as a collective of independent growers across the Right Bank, with wines carrying separate château names and appellations. The change in structure leaves a practical trace on the shelf: Cuvée Todesco can be a three-grape Bordeaux red, Puy Galland a Merlot-only Lussac-Saint-Émilion, and Pétillant de Gabriel a tank-method sparkling wine. The house name therefore introduces a group of bottles rather than a single estate style.
Place and vineyards
Where the wines begin
The collective works across Right Bank Bordeaux appellations, so the place named on an individual bottle carries more weight than a single estate address would here. Château Puy Galland is labelled Lussac-Saint-Émilion and made entirely from Merlot; Château Les Reuilles Cuvée Todesco takes a broader blending route with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. That spread gives the range two useful red-wine approaches: one centred on a single grape, the other on the way three grapes build fruit, tannin and woody flavour together.
No single soil type or slope can stand in for this collective’s vineyards. One grounded site detail belongs to Château Puy Galland: its Merlot comes from 60-year-old vines. Older vines are not a tasting note by themselves, but the detail distinguishes this Lussac-Saint-Émilion from the younger or differently planted sites elsewhere in the range; keep the vineyard age attached to that bottle, not to Vignobles Gabriel & CO as a whole.

Vineyards and cellar
The cellar work is best read bottle by bottle. At Château Les Reuilles, thermovinification is used for red-wine production, a process associated here with developing colour and structure; Cuvée Todesco’s vivid colour and creamy tannins are the resulting cues in the glass. At Château Puy Galland, David Labatut expanded the estate from 4 to 19 hectares while the current vineyard includes 60-year-old vines, keeping the vineyard facts specific to its Merlot wine.
Pétillant de Gabriel Brut takes a different route. Its equal blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard is made by the Charmat, or tank, method, and its 10 g/L sugar level supports a dry expression rather than a sweet sparkling style. The 2025 fruit was harvested in late September at optimal ripeness, then directed toward mousse and freshness instead of the tannin and oak notes of the reds.

The range in view
Château Les Reuilles Cuvée Todesco is the red blend: 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. It has vivid colour, an open nose of ripe fruit, round creamy tannins and grilled, woody notes. Merlot supplies the generous red-fruit centre, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec bring extra structure and variation around that softer texture.
Château Puy Galland Lussac-Saint-Émilion narrows the focus to 100% Merlot. Its fruit-led character and fine tannins make it a different red proposition from Todesco: less about the interaction of three grapes, more about Merlot’s fruit and tannin in one appellation-labelled wine.

It is a 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec red with enough detail to show how this collective works through distinct labels rather than one uniform house wine. Expect a vivid-coloured Bordeaux with an open ripe-fruit nose, creamy tannin, red fruit and grilled woody notes. The Merlot gives the wine its round middle, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec add structure around the fruit; thermovinification supplies a concrete cellar link to its colour and grip.
