The producer
Geyerhof is an Oberfucha estate built around Grüner Veltliner, with Riesling as its next largest planting at 20%. Josef and Maria Maier work from a Danube-side location where the estate’s main grape repeatedly appears on the label, from the young-vine StockWerk to wines named for individual Ried sites. That grape focus brings a consistent set of questions to the table: how much apple fruit, pepper, herb character and palate weight each bottling carries.
Demeter membership since 2019 is a formal part of the estate’s current profile. It sits beside a cellar programme that is mostly stainless steel, so the wines are framed by fruit, acidity and site distinctions rather than new-barrel flavour.

Where the wines begin
Oberfucha lies in Lower Austria on the southern slopes of the Danube. The estate does not need an invented appellation hierarchy to make its place legible: Oberfucha is the home address, while labels such as StockWerk and Ried Hoher Rain narrow the focus to a vineyard or named site.
Because Grüner Veltliner occupies most of Geyerhof’s vineyard area, this Danube-slope setting is encountered chiefly through dry white wine. Riesling supplies a second white-wine line, while Zweigelt, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay and Gelber Muskateller broaden the estate beyond its central grape.

The vineyard mix establishes the shape of the range. Grüner Veltliner at 60% supplies the principal dry whites; Riesling at 20% provides a second major grape; Zweigelt, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay and Gelber Muskateller occupy the remaining area. This is not a one-grape estate, but the breadth begins from Grüner Veltliner rather than treating it as a side line.
Fermentation is preferably spontaneous when quality permits. Most wines are fermented and aged in temperature-controlled 3,000-litre stainless-steel tanks, a practical choice that keeps fruit and acidity at the centre of the palate. Neutral oak is reserved for a small share of white wines and the red wine, adding vessel variation without promising vanilla or toast in every bottle.

Geyerhof’s range begins with Grüner Veltliner and moves from an Oberfucha young-vine bottling toward named Ried wines. StockWerk Grüner Veltliner 2025 is the accessible, light-footed end of that sequence, with gently spicy apple fruit, light pepper and fresh acidity. It puts the grape’s savoury edge alongside uncomplicated fruit rather than building body through oak.
Ried Hoher Rain 2025 offers a different expression within the same grape and vintage. Its documented profile is juicier, more mineral and herb-spiced than StockWerk, while full-lees ageing gives the wine a broader textural basis. Ried Sprinzenberg is another named-site reference in the 2025 range; its separate label adds another vineyard-focused Grüner Veltliner to the estate’s line-up.
