Why it matters
The producer
Groiss works with vineyards inherited from both sides of her family after studying winemaking at Universität für Bodenkultur. That family history brings several vineyard areas into one cellar: Haugsdorf in the Pulkautal, Breitenwaida and Fahndorf near Ziersdorf. Grüner Veltliner is the central grape, so the estate can show it at two scales: a regional Weinviertel wine and wines tied to individual sites.
The work remains visibly family-sized. Ingrid leads the estate, her father helps with tractor work and her mother assists in the vineyards. The consequence is not a large catalogue of unrelated labels, but a compact range shaped around grape variety, vintage and vineyard origin.

Where the wines begin
Breitenwaida sits in the Weinviertel of Lower Austria, where Grüner Veltliner has a formal regional expression in Weinviertel DAC. On a DAC Grüner label, the wine must be clean and crisp, show peppery spice, carry at least 12% alcohol and have no oak character. Those rules give the regional bottling a useful frame: dry fruit, fresh acidity and a white-pepper finish rather than wood flavour.
Groiss’s vineyard holdings extend beyond the home village to Haugsdorf and Fahndorf. That spread matters because the estate does not treat every Grüner as the same wine: the regional bottling presents a Weinviertel style, while the single-vineyard wines isolate older-vine material from particular places.

Organic farming has been the estate practice since 2016, across vineyards in Haugsdorf, Breitenwaida and Fahndorf. With Ingrid directing the estate and her parents still working in the vines and with the tractor, fruit comes from a family-held patchwork rather than one continuous block.
In the cellar, the range is deliberately narrowed toward wines that show vintage, grape and site. For the regional Grüner, Weinviertel DAC’s no-oak character keeps the result focused on acidity, fruit and peppery spice; the older-vine single-vineyard wines provide the more localised counterpoint.

The range in view
The range begins with regional Grüner Veltliner and rises into four single-vineyard wines from older vines. Groiss Grüner Veltliner Braitenpuechtorff is the documented named single-vineyard example: a bottle to approach as a distinct vineyard expression, rather than simply a richer version of the regional wine.
The 2025 regional Grüner Veltliner carries the clearest documented flavour picture: citrus and grapefruit fruit, with white pepper, herbs and flowers. Riesling and Gemischter Satz add further white-wine routes through the estate, while the rosé combines Pinot Noir and Zweigelt. The architecture stays coherent because each wine remains attached to variety, vintage or site.
