Aconcagua stretches around Los Andes and San Felipe, about 100 kilometres northeast of Santiago, between the Pacific and the Andes. On a label, Aconcagua may refer to either a broader municipality or the separate Aconcagua appellation.
The central valley is among Chile's warmest wine climates, with dry, hot summers and cold winters. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère are associated with ripe, intense styles there, while Syrah takes several forms across the valley. In cooler western sectors, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay do well, and Pinot Noir is associated with the valley's cooler areas. Andean snowmelt irrigates part of the vineyards as the valley rises sharply toward the mountains.
