One of Bohemia's two wine sub-regions, Mělnická centres on Mělník and includes Prague, Kutná Hora, Benátky nad Jizerou, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Beroun and Slaný. Its lighter, warmer soils support both white and blue grapes, and vineyards commonly sit over calcareous subsoil or gravel-sand alluvium. Pinot Noir has a long historical association with the sub-region.
