Imereti runs from Georgia's Likhi Range toward the Kolkheti lowlands. The Rioni and Kvirila rivers cut through vineyard country of rolling hills and valleys, with mountains covering much of the region. Humid conditions, cold winters and dry, hot summers vary with local soils and climates, so wines can differ markedly across Imereti.

Tsolikouri, Tsitska and Krakhuna are the region's main white grapes. Its dry whites are associated with citrus, green apple, white flowers and mineral notes, with moderate body, fresh acidity and lower tannin than many eastern Georgian styles. Traditional wines are made in qvevri, called churi locally, using less grape pomace than in Kakhetian practice. Sviri is Imereti's principal PDO for dry whites made with Tsolikouri, Tsitska and Krakhuna.
