Sitia is one of Crete's named PDO wine areas. Red clay, schist soils and dry, windy conditions are associated with wines of greater density and succulence. One Sitia Liatiko-Mandilari is described as nutty, fleshy and tannic, with low acidity and autumnal dried-fruit notes.
