Lodi & North Valley includes Lodi, Capay Valley, Clarksburg, Clements Hills, Mokelumne River, Sloughhouse, Borden Ranch, Dunnigan Hills, Alta Mesa and Cosumnes River. Lodi was divided into seven nested appellations in 2006 because soil, climate and topography affect grape and wine character. Mokelumne River's deep sandy loam provides drainage, supports vine health and naturally moderates yields. Jahant is defined by its pinkish Rocklin-Jahant loam.
