Why it matters

The producer

Family vineyards in Fèrebrianges, in the Vallée du Petit Morin, reach back to 1848. Today Domaine A. Bergère is a Grower Champagne producer located in Épernay, working with three terroir zones: the Vallée du Petit Morin, the Côte des Blancs and the Sézannais.

The domaine farms sustainably and uses individual plot vinification, with grapes from separate plots vinified separately and cellar intervention kept low. The range includes a three grape Brut, single vineyard Extra Brut cuvées and a single variety Brut Zero.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

Fèrebrianges is the family vineyard home in the Vallée du Petit Morin. The estate also works in the Côte des Blancs and Sézannais, creating three named terroir zones in the portfolio.

The labels move from grapes gathered across several villages to a named single vineyard. That geographic spread gives the domaine both blended cuvées and bottles built around one plot.

In the cellar

Vineyards and cellar

The domaine farms with sustainable, eco friendly viticulture. In the cellar, grapes from individual vineyard plots are vinified separately, and intervention is minimised.

Separate vinification keeps each plot's grapes apart during fermentation, allowing a named vineyard to remain the basis of a cuvée such as Les Clos. The domaine describes its work as bringing out the potential of each plot with utmost care.

Wines to know

The range in view

Origine Brut is the blended Brut cuvée: 70% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier from three Vallée du Petit Morin villages, with dosage at 4g/l.

The range then narrows into named single vineyard and single variety bottles. Les Clos is a limited edition made from 100% Meunier in Extra Brut style. Les Peignottes Extra Brut and Les Vignes de Nuit Extra Brut are both 100% Chardonnay. Le Petit Meslier Brut Zero is a 100% Petit Meslier wine. Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut adds another distinct cuvée to the portfolio.
