Why it matters

The producer

Victorien, Florian and Arthur are the three brothers who produce the Champagnes at La Maison Guerlet-Deguerne. The family production began with Arthur Deguerne, who produced the first cuvées in 1872.

The entire vineyard has been certified organic since 2023. Biologic viticulture means no synthetic products are used. The house also carries out no malolactic fermentation. This keeps more malic acidity in the base wine, instead of converting it into softer lactic acidity.

Place and vineyards

Where the wines begin

The estate is based primarily in Chamery, a village in Champagne. Its vineyard uses Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier in equal proportions.

In general wine terms, Chardonnay contributes acidity and citrus, Pinot Noir brings body and red fruit, and Meunier tends toward softer fruit. The equal planting gives the house three different starting points for its cuvées.

Wines to know

The range in view

Guerlet-Deguerne Blanc de Noirs brings together 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, with 24 months in the cellar. The palate has roundness and exceptional length. Guerlet-Deguerne Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay, aged 36 months in the cellar, with freshness and delicacy in its bouquet.

Guerlet-Deguerne Extra Brut combines 25% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 35% Meunier, then ages a minimum of 48 months in the cellar. Its low dosage leaves a drier finish, while prolonged maturation brings more developed lees character. Guerlet-Deguerne Rosé and Guerlet-Deguerne La Vigneulle Premier Cru 2017 complete the named range.
