Riverina spreads across the flat southwestern plains of New South Wales, centred on Griffith. It has a low-rainfall inland growing environment and variable alluvial soils, with sands and gravels embedded in clay. Chardonnay, Shiraz, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon are the main varieties. Oak can give Riverina Chardonnay varietal flavour, weight and style. Riverina is described as New South Wales' largest wine-producing region.
