Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages are the broad entry point to the region. They are usually brighter, easier and more fruit-forward than the crus, often with red fruit, floral lift and low tannin. Served slightly cool, Gamay can feel especially refreshing. Some Chardonnay also appears near the Mâconnais border, adding a white wine side to this red-dominant area. Domaine du Vissoux, Jean-Paul Brun and Domaine Cheveau show how much care can go into these regional wines before the map moves on to Morgon or Moulin-à-Vent.
