Côte Vermeille

Côte Vermeille is a coastal part of Roussillon, with steep schist terraces above the Mediterranean. Collioure dry wines and Banyuls fortified Grenache share these sea-facing slopes around Collioure and Banyuls-sur-Mer.

Côte Vermeille runs south from Collioure to Cerbère, near the Spanish border. Vineyards cling to fragmented schist terraces above the Mediterranean, where much of the work is done by hand. Tramontane winds, salt air and Mediterranean light are part of the setting. The same sea-facing slopes produce Collioure dry wines and Banyuls fortified Grenache. Banyuls Grand Cru is also among the area's appellations.
