South of the Po in the Northern Apennines, Oltrepò Pavese includes Oltrepò Pavese metodo classico, Bonarda dell'Oltrepò Pavese, Casteggio, Buttafuoco dell'Oltrepò Pavese, Sangue di Giuda, Pinot nero dell'Oltrepò Pavese and Oltrepò Pavese Pinot grigio. A 1984 effort to distinguish Pinot Nero blanc de noirs helped shape the area's modern identity. Its Metodo Classico tradition focuses on blanc de noirs and rosé de noirs.
