Bela krajina is Posavje's warmest district, between the Gorjanci hills and the Kolpa River on the Croatian border. Mediterranean influence and large day-night temperature differences help aromatic wines retain freshness. Traditional Belokranjec and Metliška Črnina are light-bodied and drinkable, while Yellow Muscat and Blaufränkisch have attracted more recent attention. Slovenia's first ice wine was made here in 1986 under oenologist Julij Nemanič.
