Dolenjska is Posavje's coldest wine-growing district. Its continental climate has Alpine and sub-Pannonian influences, with very cold winters and warm summers. Slate, sandstone, marl, limestone and dolomite all occur in its soils. Cviček remains central: a light, low-alcohol wine with red-berry aromas. Dolenjska also uses the local white variety Rumeni Plavec for full-tasting white wine. Alongside Cviček, the district now makes varietal wines, rosés and traditional-method sparkling wines.
