Puget Sound

Puget Sound lies west of the Cascade Mountains, outside Columbia Valley. Its cool, wet maritime climate favors Pinot Noir and Riesling, while many vineyards can be dry-farmed.

Puget Sound lies west of the Cascade Mountains, outside Columbia Valley, and is Washington's only AVA on that side of the range. It is the state's coolest and wettest growing region, with a temperate maritime climate and about 15 to 60 inches of rain each year. Many vineyards can be dry-farmed. The wines differ markedly from those of eastern Washington. Pinot Noir and Riesling are especially well suited to the region, alongside varieties rarely found elsewhere in the state.
