Naoussa is one of Macedonia's main Xinomavro PDO zones. Its vineyards mainly occupy the southeastern slopes of Mount Vermio, at roughly 150 to 400 metres. Naoussa Boutari, described as the first modern Greek bottled wine, was made here in 1905. The area was formally identified as a PDO region in 1971. Naoussa Xinomavro also appears as a light-bodied rosé with moderate to high acidity. Its white version is more herbal, with olive and citrus flavours.
