Breedekloof's vineyards lie on well-drained alluvial valley soils over river stones. Its river valleys differ in soil and mesoclimate, and the area includes the Goudini and Slanghoek wards. Chenin Blanc has drawn focused local attention since winemakers formed the Breedekloof Makers Initiative in 2014. Chenin Makers wines may use single-vineyard or old-vine fruit, with barrel, amphora or cement-egg fermentation. Breedekloof includes boutique cellars, estates and larger cooperatives.
