Robertson is part of South Africa's Breede River Valley. Marked variation between daytime and nighttime temperatures contributes to its distinct flavour profiles, and the area has limestone pockets comparable to those associated with Chablis. Chardonnay from limestone soils is described as minerally and unwooded. Calcrete is reserved for specially selected Chardonnay from the Bonnievale-Robertson area. Robertson is publicly branded as the Valley of Wine and Roses.
