Ostergotland's vineyard planting is still new. Valla Vingård made its first plantings in 2024, choosing Solaris as its initial variety. The project describes itself as building one of the world's northernmost vineyards.
The site has sandy moraine over limestone and a south-facing slope where shale was quarried in the nineteenth century. It was chosen for its microclimate, with the aim of growing higher-quality grapes. Solaris is disease-resistant, and the local approach avoids chemical pesticides. The variety can be made in steel or oak, as dry, sweet or sparkling wine.
