Producer coverage

No producers listed yet

We do not yet list a producer in Struma Valley. The region guide, map and nearby wine places remain open to explore.

Long, hot summers and short, mild winters shape Struma Valley in Bulgaria. The Struma and Mesta river systems influence its microclimate, and the Struma runs south to the Aegean Sea. Cinnamon-brown and alluvial-diluvial soils are linked to the valley's predominance of red grapes and its full-bodied, spicy wines. South-facing hills around Harsovo favour warmer, riper fruit. Sandanski is among Bulgaria's warmest wine areas, while Melnik combines sandy hills with underground-cellar ageing for concentrated local wines. Shiroka Melnishka, also called Broad Leaved Vine of Melnik, is a local grape. Melnik 55, or Early Melnik Vine, has a more intense red colour and more saturated taste.
