Sandanski sits within Bulgaria's Struma Valley and is one of the country's warmest wine valleys. The wider Sandanski-Petrich Valley has some of Bulgaria's highest average annual temperatures, with alluvial valley bottoms forming a notable part of its geology. The warmth supports ripe, full red wines, while nearby mountains help retain some freshness.
