Melnik is a wine area in Bulgaria's Struma Valley, with sandy, rocky slopes and a tradition of ageing local wines in underground cellars. Its sandy hills and cellars are associated with concentrated wines that spend a long time ageing. Shiroka Melnishka is also called Broad Leaved Vine of Melnik. Melnik 55, known as Early Melnik Vine, is described as having a more intense red colour and a more saturated taste than Broadleafed Melnik Vine.
