Jura

Jura is small, with its own way of making wine. Savagnin becomes Vin Jaune under voile, Chardonnay ranges from mineral to oxidative styles, and Poulsard or Trousseau make pale, aromatic reds that are serious without being heavy.

Jura runs along a narrow limestone band between Burgundy and the Alps. Savagnin is central, especially in Vin Jaune, which ages under a veil of yeast called voile. Chardonnay appears in topped-up mineral wines and oxidative styles. Poulsard and Trousseau make pale reds with spice, earth and lift. Arbois is the broadest name, Château-Chalon is closely tied to Vin Jaune, L'Étoile is a small white-wine pocket, and Côtes du Jura covers much of the wider range.
