Podravje is in northeastern Slovenia, with the winegrowing districts of Prekmurje and Štajerska Slovenija. Prekmurje's sandy, loamy, marly and volcanic soils are associated with wines of pronounced minerality.

Štajerska Slovenija lies between the Pohorje Hills and the Pannonian Plain. Its moderately cool climate and soils of sandy clay, marl and limestone suit Furmint, Sauvignon blanc, Rheinriesling, Pinot gris, Gelber Muskateller, Traminer and Chardonnay. The district is known for delicate, aromatic whites, late-harvest and botrytised dessert wines, and sparkling wine from Gornja Radgona, where production has continued for more than 150 years. In Ljutomer-Ormož, terraced vineyards are closely linked with Šipon, the Slovenian name for Furmint.
