Štajerska Slovenija is one of Podravje's two winegrowing districts. The Pohorje Hills and Pannonian Plain shape its moderately cool climate, while sandy clay, marl and limestone make up its soils. Furmint is indigenous here, alongside Sauvignon blanc, Rheinriesling, Pinot gris, Gelber Muskateller, Traminer and Chardonnay. The district is associated with delicate, aromatic white wines, as well as late-harvest and botrytised dessert wines. Its six subregions include Ljutomer-Ormož, where terraced vineyards are associated with Šipon, the Slovenian name for Furmint. Radgona-Kapela focuses on sparkling wine, Traminer and Radgonska Ranina.
