Central Alsace

From Ribeauvillé to Turckheim, Central Alsace brings closely spaced grand cru sites together on limestone, granite and marl. Here, the same grape can take a different direction from one hill to the next.

Central Alsace is a compact section of the wine route around Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Colmar, Turckheim and Eguisheim. It holds a dense concentration of producers and grand cru sites, with very different ground close together. Schlossberg above Kaysersberg is granite, Schoenenbourg above Riquewihr is Jurassic marl, and Brand above Turckheim is granite. Rieslings from nearby villages can therefore differ in structure despite sharing the same grape. Dry, mineral Riesling sits alongside powerful Gewurztraminer and rich Pinot Gris.
